Encouraging Thought From Psalm 13

How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
and day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?

Look on me and answer, Lord my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,

and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,”
and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

-Psalm 13:2-4, NIV

This is one of my favorite Psalms. It is an honest cry of the heart from someone struggling with injustice and feeling God’s absence. This really resonated with me during some of my dark times…

“How long, O Lord?” (vv.1a, NASB)

Maybe you can relate?

I leave it here as reminder to all that we can be honest to God about our feelings. Do you feel abandoned? Do you feel like your enemies are winning? Do you feel like God is doing nothing?

Tell Him.

He is big enough to take it. And He is worthy of trust.

  1. Dear DM,
Excellent reminder! So pleased you brought it out.
Expressing ourselves this way is NOT a lack of faith, but rather, an excellent expression of our faith in our Creator, knowing he really hears, feels and understands our pains.
Many of the Bible writers expressed such things freely and openly to our God and he did not censure them for their honesty. Rather, he had their honest expressions preserved as an example of how we, too, can pour out our hearts in earnest prayer without fear of censure.
Thank you for your excellent posts……
