Fragmented Past Forever

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

-Galatians 6:9, NLT

This morning I had the privilege of leading my Alma Mater’s football team in a devotional. I chose Galatians 6:9 as my focal text.

It felt good to do this. But coming back to my Alma Mater brings mixed feelings for me. I have history with my ex-wife on this campus. It was where we met when I was in my senior season as a football team captain.

Yet my years here feel like a lifetime away.

I do not believe these conflicted feels are signs of unhealed wounds. They are just the expected pains of grief that come when we are in places that trigger memories.

My Alma Mater and the surrounding community do that for me.

But I do not allow those feelings to stop me from supporting my Alma Mater and reconnecting with old friends. The wounds of the past will not dictate my future.
