Freely chosen.

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.

-Hebrews 13:4, NIV

Cheaters freely chose to marry their spouses.

This free choice came with the explicit commitment to exclusiveness. That is the usual marriage vow of “forsaking all others.”

Now, if you listen to some cheaters, you might come the wrong conclusion that the marriage was someone else’s idea.

-They may characterize it as a trap.

-Some may talk about their spouse being their jailor.

-The faithful spouse is treated as the barrier to their “happiness.”

All of these “excuses” obscure a very important fact:

The cheater chose this marriage freely.

No one put a gun to their head to force them into the marriage. It was no “arranged” marriage. They chose the marriage vows they spoke in front of the friends, family, and God.

Adults take responsibility for their decisions and commitments. It is past time cheaters are reminded to grow up!
