Like a super suckerpunch to the gut!

“At every street corner you built your lofty shrines and degraded your beauty, spreading your legs with increasing promiscuity to anyone who passed by.

You adulterous wife! You prefer strangers to your own husband!

-Ezekiel 16:25,32, NIV

Nothing really prepares you for that moment of discovery.

Nothing.

You might have suspected the cheating. Perhaps, you even asked the cheater about it? They denied it, of course.

Then the moment comes.

You are staring at the evidence:

Sex stains on the sheets when you haven’t had sex for months. A thong that is not yours stuck in the marriage bed. Missing contraception only used for intercourse.

Your worst fears are confirmed:

They are having sex with another.

The revelation of the treachery puts you into shock. You feel like someone has carved your heart out with a dull spoon and punched you in the gut at the same time.

This moment–actually, it usually lasts for weeks if not longer–is so often passed over by Christian outsiders in their haste to shame you into forgiving. They have no idea how awful this experience is!!!

If they did, they would lead with empathy not forgiveness-talk condemnation.

Discovering an adulterous betrayal is truly a super suckerpunch to the gut!
