Thankful

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

-I Thessalonians 5;18, KJV

Much wisdom is in this little song from my childhood. Giving thanks for the gifts God has given us even while feeling discouraged, anxious, or depressed seems to help. At least, I have found it helpful.

After a stressful day at the office, I have a long commute home. In the car, I reflect on the fact that I have a solid roof, good food, and a loving family to which I get to return each day.

I am truly blessed.

Remembering these things suddenly makes the troubles and worries of the day melt away.

What blessings has God given you in the midst of your storm?

A loving cat? A loyal dog?

Delicious food? A fulfilling job?

A beautiful sunset? A cool breeze? Warm sunshine stroking your cheeks?

A caring friend? A supportive relative?

I don’t know what it may be for you. But I would encourage you to count the ways God has blessed you. It is good medicine for the soul.
