A Rare Fond Memory Four Years Ago…

A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

-Ecclesiastes 4:12, NLT

My life and my marriage was falling apart. I was isolated and being bombarded by those who were far from supportive of my needs or even genuinely interested in godliness for my–soon to be–defunct marriage.

I decided to visit my best friend in New York City over the Labor Day weekend.

It “just happened” that another one of our good friends was visiting the same weekend as well. This was a special time together with individuals I knew and know “had my back.” We had been friends going on a decade at the point of this trip. Friendships forged in fire.

Labor Day now has a special place in my heart because of that important weekend.

I was encouraged to read Love Must Be Tough by Dr. Dobson by one of my friends, and I started to form the backbone I needed to deal with the infidelity ravaging my marriage. But the greatest gift of that weekend was refreshing and fun times with good friends. It was an oasis in my greatest life storm.

May you find such oasis experiences yourself during your life’s storm.

I know I was and am thankful for that one.
