Loss is hard.
We are currently considering putting down one of our birds. He got attacked by one of our larger birds in a moment when we did not notice the larger bird had made his way towards him. It all happened so suddenly.
The injuries apparently are very bad according to the veterinarian that it is either amputation of wing–an iffy thing for such a small bird–or we have him euthanized as he is suffering.
So, we are in that place where we are anticipating the loss of a special buddy. This was the parrot who won me over to being a parrot owner (from a cat owner).
It is hard being in grief’s hallway. The loss has not yet happened, but you know it is coming.
The “if only’s” and “what if’s” are present in this hallway. I know you know that all too well. But that is all part of the journey to healing and acceptance. A piece will forever be gone, but the good will remain in our hearts.
If you find yourself in grief’s hallway, I want to encourage you. This isn’t a permanent address and can be a gift to help you walk through the loss so that you don’t have to bear it all at once.
