“Rebuke your mother, rebuke her,
for she is not my wife,
and I am not her husband.
Let her remove the adulterous look from her face
and the unfaithfulness from between her breasts.”-Hosea 2:2, NIV
Love her back!
So often, this advice is what is given as the “Christian” answer to marital infidelity. It is an approach that they claim is what Jesus does for us. However, it misses the rest of Scripture and how repentance is always required for our union with Christ.
Rebuking is skipped over by these folks!
Honestly, that IS the loving thing to do. Scripture is clear that if someone persists in sinning that they are in danger of hellfire (see Hebrews 10:26-27). The loving thing to do is to warn them, rebuke them.
Yet, that is NOT what most mean by “love her back.”
They usually mean cater to her wants and wishes. This is the worst advice to follow in this situation because your Cheater is already indulging their wants and wishes to your detriment.
Following this advice is akin to colluding in your own abuse as cheating IS abuse!
Cheaters already believe they deserve the princess treatment. What they do not believe is that they owe their spouse better behavior. “Love her back” fuels further entitlement and abuse, in my opinion.
