Displaced Pain

“You shall not commit adultery.”

-Exodus 20:14, NIV

Displaced Pain

I suspect many of our Cheaters are dealing with some sort of pain in their lives. They may use their pain as excuse to engage in destructive behaviors of all sorts. Sadly, faithful spouses are impacted by their poor copping mechanisms.

Just because your Cheater has real pain does not give them permission to abuse you by engaging in adultery!

They are CHOOSING to harm you when they do this. And we can be certain that they are CHOOSING this by the herculean effort they put into all their covering lies.

God’s command is clear:

“You shall not commit adultery.”

I do not see any escape clause there. Cheaters do not get to “justify” their adulterous abuse by displacing their pain on faithful spouses. That is just wrong!

It is also sad.

Cheaters have chosen to burn down their own house–i.e. their marriage–instead of doing necessary renovations to make it better for everyone. An out of control fire does not make a house more livable.

Now, many Cheaters place blame for their abusive behavior at the feet of the faithful spouse. They may point at them for the reason for their pain and misery. Sadly, that is just misplaced. They simply lack the courage to face their own “demons” and choose better going forward.
