See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the wilderness
and streams in the wasteland.-Isaiah 43:19, NIV
I am loyal.
Sometimes the shadow side of this characteristic has gotten me in trouble. I have stayed in circumstances that no longer served me because of said loyalty.
Plus, to be honest, I dislike change.
I do not like the unknown that comes with starting over in relationships–whether it is with a partner or a church family or simply new friends.
Change can be hard. Yet staying in abusive situations–I’ve learned–is harder!
It is important to know if you are a loyal person who dislikes change, because these attributes can be weaponized against you. Cheaters can happily keep you in limbo using you while they continue to break trust in all sorts of ways knowing you won’t leave them.
Don’t let them do this to you. Guard yourself against such abuse.
Take stock of your situation and make decisions based on your best outcomes. Sadly, the options may all be a varying sort of bad. However, you need not be passive in this process.
You have a voice! And you CAN make choices that affirm your value. So, do it.
