Growing up

When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.

-I Corinthians 13:11, NIV

About a month ago, I went to my college’s class reunion. It had been twenty years since I had graduated with my degree.

Since I had met my Cheater at my college, it was an odd experience. I enjoyed the reunion but also had a sense of sadness and loss underneath the whole experience.

I know I am a much different person than the young man who graduated twenty years ago.

This is, also, something I noticed about my classmates. We weren’t jaded, but we were much wiser than in the past (and younger classes).

Time can provide that wisdom, if we allow it, and so can painful experiences and losses.

I remember a time when five years seemed like an eon. Now, it feels like a blink of an eye. Time seems to speed up as we get older, at least that’s how I feel.
