Intangible Losses

20 You have allowed me to suffer much hardship,
but you will restore me to life again
and lift me up from the depths of the earth.
21 You will restore me to even greater honor
    and comfort me once again.

-Psalm 71:20-21, NLT

Intangible Losses

Some of the losses that come with divorcing your Cheater are harder to name. That makes it more difficult to grieve them. Yet they are still significant.

The loss of shared history is one of those losses. You may meet someone new, but they will never get those years with you in your youth.

It feels like a real waste–i.e. the years we lost to our Cheater. Now, that does not mean we did not gain some important lessons from those years as well. However, it is still a loss even if we have some positives from those years.

For me, this was driven home to me at a recent college reunion. I noticed the loss of a shared history present by remembering the past.

That said, I think we gain far more moving on from our Cheater than we lose. It does drive home how it all could have been different, though, if your ex had not chosen to cheat.
