There are two sides to every story.
The first one to speak sounds true until you hear the other side
and they set the record straight.
-Proverbs 18:17, TPT
I was minding my own business reading a book about supernatural phenomenon and this verse was quoted. It sent me back immediately and emotionally to my ecclesiastical trial with my former denomination.
Triggered!
This was a verse they quoted to justify seeking input from my cheating ex-spouse about our marriage that they kept sealed from me. More specifically, it was a verse used to justify the whole horrific process of digging through my wounds.
It was a mishandling of Scripture.
Some may even call it spiritually abusive.
You do not need to cross-examine an abuse victim to ascertain what they did to “deserve” or “cause” this abuse. Cheating is abuse. So, that goes for infidelity situations as well.
