Accountability

When cheaters talk about their marriages, they often point to their victim as the problem. The cheating is treated as a symptom of their “marriage problems.” It is telling as far as what lies they have told themselves to “justify” breaking their marriage covenant.

Sound spiritual care will hold the cheater accountable.

A wise pastor does not allow the cheater shirk their responsibility. They hold the cheater accountable for breaking the covenant relationship. This is necessary in order for there to be hope for repentance.

If it is someone else’s fault or a mere product of circumstances that caused the cheating, a cheater cannot repent. They have to first own their actions, and then they can turn from them repenting.

In other words, holding a cheater accountable in this life is kindness because they will be held accountable in the next!
