ANGRIER THAN GOD YOUR GOOD FATHER?!

If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

-Matthew 7:11, NIV

Do we believe we must convince God to get Him to be angry at our cheater-abuser?

I think so.

In fact, I suspect many of us believe we have more righteous anger towards our abuser-cheater than God. We do not trust Him and His goodness.

The reality is God is angry over what we endured. How could a good, loving father not be?!

God is not “okay” with how your cheater treated you. He is not.

You are precious to Him. He genuinely cares about how your are treated. Your pain matters to Him because He loves you very much.

If a good earthly father would become angry over his daughter being abused by a cheater, do you think God is less loving than such an imperfect human?

Of course, not!

God’s love for you is strong enough to mean He gets angry over your mistreatment. If you do not believe this, I would suggest you do not really believe God loves you.

God does.

So, God is truly more angry than you will ever be over your unjust mistreatment!*

I find that thought comforting. It gives me permission to let go of my own anger. I do not have to convince God I am worth getting angry for.

God loves me enough to get angry over someone hurting me.

*Now, God is also wise, gracious, and merciful. But none of those characteristics means God gives sin a free pass. God takes sin very seriously. He does not minimize.
