Encouragement from Psalm 147

He heals the brokenhearted
and bandages their wounds.

The Lord supports the humble,
but he brings the wicked down into the dust.

-Psalm 147:3,6, NLT

I love how the Psalmist characterizes God.

God is both tender to the hurting and strong towards the proud. He is the type who is perfect for a faithful spouse to trust.

He is no pushover!

Yet He is the first person someone who is broken and hurting can turn to for help and healing. God understands our brokenness and sends us people–I believe–to help us heal when our hearts are broken.

I do not think it is a mistake that this characterization of God is included in the passage Jesus uses to announce his ministry in Luke 4.

This is the main reason I am a Christian:

God cares about our pain. It matters to God!

He binds up our broken hearts and captures all our tears in His jar. Our pain is precious to Him who seeks our wholeness and loves us with His tenderness.
