Once gaslit…

When you’ve been gaslighted once, you can develop a sense for when someone tries to do it, again.

Sadly, Cheaters and their supporters are not the only people who engage in gaslighting–i.e. practice of trying to convince you to disregard and distrust your own senses. Politicians and church leaders sadly do this as well.

A gift of this awful experience is developing a level of trust in one’s own gut and senses. We learn the hard way that we were always right about what was denied.

In other words, our BS meter can get recalibrated by surviving infidelity. For those of us who were too trusting, we can learn to be more skeptical for our own health and well-being going forward.

To be clear, this does NOT mean gaslighting is acceptable behavior or less than abuse. It IS abuse. But we may be better at spotting it going forward and not buying their manipulations. That will (and does) serve us well going forward.
