Question Exchange: Did you try reconciling? Instead…

You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery,’ ‘Do not murder,’ ‘Do not steal,’ ‘Do not bear false witness,’ ‘Do not defraud,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’”

-Mark 10:19, NKJV

QUESTION EXCHANGE

Instead of probing the faithful spouse regarding their efforts to reconcile with a cheater, I suggest putting the onus upon the cheater.

NOT:

Did you try reconciling?

INSTEAD:

DID THE CHEATER REPENT?

I grow weary of the expectation from Christians that faithful spouses are to essentially make cheater repentance irrelevant to restoration. God does not work this way.

If we do not repent and stop sinning, the Bible is clear that we will not inherit eternal life (see I Corinthians 6:9-10, Hebrews 10:26-27, etc).

We need to realign our priorities and lines of questioning if we are to be a godly people.

By putting reconciliation efforts before probing repentance efforts (on the part of the cheater), we are advocating for ungodly reconciliation.

It is past time for a question exchange!
