Fascinating Resource On Religious Leader Manipulations

I enjoy listening to a variety of podcasts when I am running errands and on my work commute.

One of the podcasts I enjoy is “The Roys Report.” Julie Roys founded this news outlet reporting on issues within the church. She has been involved in exposing several scandals in the Chicago area including, for example, at the Moody Bible Institute and Harvest Bible Chapel.

Her latest two episodes (here and here) really got me thinking about how religious leaders respond to getting caught and how these patterns fit with cheaters as well.

In particular, these two podcasts include a discussion about “Image Repair Theory” with Dr. Julia Dahl, M.D. applying this theory to two recent scandals in evangelical institutions.

I would recommend listening to both podcasts and looking at the supplemental document that explains “Image Repair Theory” embedded in the first episodes notes.

  1. I came across one of her articles around the time of the Joshua Duggar scandal. Excellent resource ! Thanks for sharing 👍
