“And I tell you this, whoever divorces his wife and marries someone else commits adultery—unless his wife has been unfaithful.”
-Matthew 19:9, NLT
Whether you stay or choose divorce is YOUR call!
Not mine.
Not your pastor’s.
Not your therapist’s.
YOUR call!
I think it is important to take responsibility for our choices and not offload them onto another person. This is especially important during a time when we may feel especially dis-empowered as is often the case upon discovering infidelity.
While the perspective of others can inform your decision about divorce, you are the one who will ultimately bear the consequences either way. So, I would encourage YOU to keep your power and intentionally make YOUR own decision.
What if my cheater made the decision for me by filing for divorce?
While this might not feel like a mercy or compliment, you may take it as such. They have decided that they are unwilling or unable to continue the deception and manipulation of you. So, they are moving on. That is one less decision for you to have to make in your vulnerable state.
Their decision to divorce you is sin, by the way, on their part. But clearly, they are not bothered by one more sin.
