Expect to lose some “friends”

You know that everyone in the province of Asia has deserted me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

-2 Timothy 1:15, NIV

Not all your “friends” before the infidelity discovery will remain your friends afterwards.

This is a hard truth to accept. Yet it is a reality best accepted to avoid further heartache.

I think this is one of hardest parts of discovering a cheating spouse and getting divorced. Some people who you thought were your friends turn out to be less than friend material.

It hurts.

Walking away from such hurtful people is a hard decision to make. But I encourage you to do so.

Just as you make this hard discovery, you will also make the opposite discovery. Friends–or even once strangers–shower you with kindness and support. Focus your energy on those people.

It is healthy to grieve relationships lost. And I hope you celebrate and give thanks to God for those He gives you through this difficult time. I know I am grateful for those many, many kind people in my life.
