That Cheater Cycle

Anyone recognize the following cycle?

Cheat.

Cheater says, “It was a ‘cry for help.’ [Insert favorite blame directed at faithful spouse].”

Cheat, again.

Cheater says, “Our marriage problems have nothing to do with [affair partner]. You know that you [insert favorite blame directed at faithful spouse].”

Continues cheating.

This cycle is nothing new. Cheaters do not believe cheating is such a big deal as they are not the ones suffering the extreme losses. That is what the faithful spouse is experiencing.

They even try to “protect” their own conscience by spinning the cheating with the lies that it is the faithful spouse’s fault. It is not.

God’s permission for faithful spouse’s to divorce a cheater (see Mt 19:9) is a way out of this abusive cycle.

You can get off this merry-go-round from hell. It will still hurt. Divorce always does. However, it sets you free from the ongoing cycles of blaming, lying, and other abuses by a cheater dead set against repenting.
