“I’m trapped!” Immaturity

Even a child is known by his deeds,
Whether what he does is pure and right.

-Proverbs 20:11, NKJV

“I’m trapped!” exclaims Cheater.

This mentality frustrates me. I am mostly frustrated thinking about how pastors or counselors might take this bait from the Cheater. They fail to call the Cheater to account.

Unless someone held a gun to your spouse’s head on the wedding day, they CHOSE to marry you!

They are not an unfortunate victim of circumstances. You did not entrap them into your marriage. They freely pledged fidelity and mutual support through all of life’s up and downs in front of family and God.

Cheaters might feel trapped. However, that is a lie that they need to fight with the truth of their agency in this.

Godly pastors and counselors will help remind them of the truth–they CHOSE to marry. That is the commitment they freely made.

Personally, I think the “I’m trapped” excuse for cheating is one that reveals utter immaturity and weakness on the part of a Cheater. They are abdicating their personal agency.

Also, someone using that “excuse” is likely to cheat, again, as they are playing victim to circumstances as opposed owning their agency. Beware of such individuals.
